Laguna SkateGarden Grand Opening Celebration Saturday, Sept. 27th Sebastopol's brand new park, the Laguna SkateGarden will be celebrating their Grand Opening on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 from 11 am to 5 pm. The dedication for the park will be held at 11 am with Mayor, Craig Litwin leading the ceremonies. The park will be closed the morning of the 27th until the dedication at 11 am. The celebration will feature live music from local bands: Wayward Son, Ithaca, Party, Snag (Hectic), Byss, Emma Field, Parallel Freakwenzy, A Victory Nonetheless, AWOL, Sol Horizon, goddess Alchemy Project, and Sonic Bloom. Guayaki and the Grateful Bagel will provide free food and beverages. Food may also be purchased at the park from Fregene's Pizza, El Coronel, and Patisserie Angelica. The Laguna SkateGarden is located at 6700 Laguna Park Way. The entire skate structure will be open. The street, Laguna Park Way, will be closed on the 27th to car traffic. People attending the event are encouraged to bring their own folding or camping chairs. The Laguna SkateGarden is open everyday from 8 am to sunset. The City and Police Department will close park temporarily when skaters are not wearing safety equipment or when the park is vandalized. Helmets and pads are ALWAYS required for skaters. The Laguna SkateGarden includes a state-of-the art 15,000 sq ft skate park featuring a beginner bowl, a street course, a rocket bowl, and an advanced deep-pool bowl. The park also includes 14 community garden plots, a playground-type climbing rock, a beautiful shade arbor, park benches, picnic tables, a drinking fountain, and a public restroom. Construction began over a year ago; however, the creation of the park has been a 15-year effort. The design of this multi-use park intends to meet the needs of the whole community. We are proud to showcase ecologically friendly installations including: a natural building tool shed with a living roof, a flow-form, and a bio-infiltration area featuring innovative strategies for managing and purifying storm-water. Fruit trees have also been planted to provide abundant fresh fruit for the park's visitors. In addition to the City's ongoing support and involvement, key community groups involved with the project include the West County Skate Park Organization, the RITES group, and the Sculpture Jam group from the Sebastopol Center of the Arts. Besides many donations from local businesses and residents, major grants were obtained from the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, the County Partnerships for Youth Program, and the State of California. Significant in-kind donations were also made by a number of individuals and businesses, including Bill Cole, Sierra Hart, Phelps & Associates, Christine Schieb, and Dan Davis. Special thanks goes to Sebastopol's City Planning Director, Kenyon Webster, who managed the project.

We are very happy to announce that the WCSP was awarded a $1,000 Community grant from the Rotary Club of Sebastopol Sunrise. We want to thank the Sunrise Rotary for their continued support. Please support their efforts by attending the upcoming 'Cajun Zydeco Festival' on Sept. 9, 2006. Also, recently, our City Council allocated an additional $8,000 to the skate park project from a State Workforce Housing Program grant. This grant rewards cities which produce affordable housing. This amount will be added to the approximate $550,000 which the City has already allocated for the park. The estimated construction cost for the park is about $1,000,000. W.C.S.P. wants to extend a BIG THANKS to Jasper O'Farrell's, Home Blown Glass, and Vulgar Skateboards for donating raffle items and raising $200 for the skate park! COMING THIS SUMMER (date to be announced) Jasper's will host Sunday matinée fundraising concerts for the skate park. 4/14/06 W.C.S.P. earns $6,000 from Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament. WINNERS 1. 1/26/06 W.C.S.P. earns $2,000 from The Rep's performance of Bus Stop. | July and August Benefits at Jasper O'Farrells Raise $2,500 The Jasper O'Farrells Skate Park Benefits held in July and August were a big success, earning over $2,500. The money raised was from the cover price, the sale of raffle tickets and T- Shirts, and a donation from Jaspers. A big thanks goes to Jasper O'Farrells for hosting the events and donating 20% of their bar earnings to the W.C.S.P. We also want to thank all the bands who donated their time and talent to make the evenings really fun, entertaining, and successful. Sebastopol Realtors Donate $500 to WCSP We want to extend a BIG thanks to the Sebastopol Council of Realtors for recently donating $500 to the West County Skate Park Organization. The Sebastopol Council of Realtors has donated to W.C.S.P. a minimum of $500 each year for the last eight years. One year, we received $2,000 from the Council! Each month, the Council donates to other local non-profit organizations in the Sebastopol area. We appreciate their extreme generosity and contributions to the youth in our community.
